Mock Driving Tests

A realistic, full-format practice test that shows you exactly where you stand before the real thing. Run by DVSA-approved instructors on the road types and conditions you're likely to meet on test day, with detailed feedback and a clear plan for any final gaps.

Unsure if you are test-ready?

A mock driving test is the safest way to find out. We run it exactly like the real test and give you honest feedback.

What a mock test covers

Every mock mirrors the current DVSA practical test structure from start to finish.

Eyesight check

Read a number plate at the required distance. We make sure you can pass this basic but essential check before test day.

Tell me / show me questions

Vehicle safety questions delivered exactly as the examiner would ask them. You will know how to answer under pressure.

Independent driving

Following a sat nav or traffic signs for 20 minutes, just like the real test. We check lane discipline, observation, and timing.

Manoeuvres

Bay parking, parallel parking, pulling up on the right, and reversing — we cover the full set the examiner can choose from.

Local roads and conditions

Practice on the road types and driving environments commonly used around Edinburgh, Dunfermline, Dunbar, Dumfries, and other local test centres.

Fault analysis

After the mock we identify every serious and driving fault, so your remaining lessons target the right areas.

Why mock tests matter

Reduce test-day nerves by experiencing the format first
Find hidden weaknesses before the real examiner does
Build stamina for a 40-minute assessed drive
Practice with an impartial instructor, not your regular teacher
Get honest feedback on whether you are really ready
Learn how to recover from mistakes mid-test

How it works

1

Book your mock

Contact us by phone or online. We recommend booking the mock 1–2 weeks before your real practical test so you have time to act on the feedback.

2

Meet at a local test centre

Your instructor meets you at or near the test centre you are booked into. The drive starts from the same place your real test will.

3

Full DVSA-format drive

The mock includes eyesight check, tell-me/show-me questions, general driving, one reversing manoeuvre, and 20 minutes of independent driving.

4

Detailed debrief

We go through every fault, explain why it happened, and build a short plan for your remaining lessons — if any are needed.

When should I book?

Book the mock when your instructor says you are close to test standard — usually in the final 1–2 weeks before your test. Too early and it is not useful; too late and there is no time to fix problems.

Can I use my own car?

Most learners use the instructor's dual-control car. If you want to use your own car, it must be insured for the instructor, meet DVSA test standards, and have an extra interior mirror for the examiner.

Local test centres we cover

Our instructors know the routes around Edinburgh, The Lothians, Fife, and Dumfries.

Mock test questions

How much does a mock driving test cost?
A mock test is charged at the standard lesson rate for your area and transmission type. It typically takes around 90 minutes — the mock itself plus a detailed debrief. See our prices page for current rates.
Will the mock test tell me if I will pass the real test?
It gives a strong indication, but it is not a guarantee. The mock shows whether you are currently driving at test standard. If you pass the mock comfortably and your real test conditions are similar, your chances are very good.
Can I have a mock test even if I am not a DTC learner?
Yes. We run mock tests for learners from other driving schools too. It is often useful to have an impartial second opinion before your real test.
What if I fail the mock test badly?
That is valuable information. We will identify the most serious faults and recommend focused lessons before your real test. If you are far from ready, we may advise moving your test date back.
Does the mock include the independent driving part?
Yes. The full 20-minute independent driving section is included, using either a sat nav (supplied by the instructor) or following traffic signs, just like the real test.
Should I take my mock at the same test centre as my real test?
Ideally yes. The mock is most useful when it uses the same roads, roundabouts, and manoeuvre locations you will face on test day. We run mocks from all the main centres we cover.
