Terms and Conditions

The terms governing your use of The Driving Training Centre's services and website.

1. Agreement to terms

By booking a lesson or using our website, you agree to these terms and conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

2. Definitions

  • The DTC means The Driving Training Centre.
  • Instructor means a driving instructor employed by or contracted to The DTC.
  • Learner means the person receiving driving tuition.
  • Lesson means a scheduled period of driving tuition.
  • Test Swap means The DTC's online service for identifying a potential learner-to-learner exchange of existing practical car test appointments.

3. Booking and scheduling

  • Lessons must be booked in advance through The DTC by phone, text, email, or the contact form on this website.
  • Lesson times are agreed between the learner and instructor and confirmed by The DTC.
  • The DTC reserves the right to reassign instructors if the original instructor becomes unavailable.

4. Cancellation policy

  • A minimum of 48 hours' notice is required to cancel or rearrange a lesson without charge.
  • Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice will be charged at the full lesson rate.
  • No-shows will be charged at the full lesson rate.
  • If your instructor needs to cancel, we will offer an alternative appointment at no extra cost.

5. Payment

  • Individual lessons must be paid for before or at the start of the lesson unless otherwise agreed.
  • Block bookings must be paid in advance in full.
  • Block booking hours must be used within 12 months of purchase.
  • Prices are subject to change. The price agreed at the time of booking will be honoured.

6. Learner responsibilities

  • You must hold a valid provisional driving licence and bring it to your first lesson.
  • You must be fit to drive and not under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication that impairs your ability to drive safely.
  • You must follow your instructor's directions during lessons.
  • You must inform The DTC of any medical conditions that may affect your ability to drive.

7. Vehicle use

  • Dual-controlled vehicles are provided by The DTC for lessons unless you arrange to use your own car with your instructor's agreement.
  • You are responsible for any parking fines or traffic offences incurred during your lesson that result from your own actions.

8. Test bookings

  • The DTC can advise on test booking but the learner is responsible for booking their own theory and practical tests through the DVSA.
  • The DTC cannot guarantee a test pass.
  • If you wish to use a vehicle from The DTC for your practical test, this must be arranged in advance and is subject to instructor and vehicle availability.

9. The DTC Test Swap

The DTC Test Swap is a matching and communication service. It does not book, change, cancel, own or sell driving test appointments, and it is not part of or affiliated with DVSA. The official exchange must be completed by the learners directly with DVSA by phone. Your existing booking remains unchanged unless DVSA confirms the swap.

Eligibility and accurate information

  • You must already hold a genuine practical car test booking and may only manage or swap your own appointment.
  • You must provide accurate test centre, date, time, appointment category and remaining-change information.
  • You are responsible for checking that a proposed exchange meets the current DVSA rules for both learners, including timing, location, appointment category and permitted changes.
  • You should confirm that your instructor agrees you will be ready and is available for the proposed appointment.

Matches and the official change

  • A proposed match is not a reservation or guarantee. Either learner may decline, a match may expire, and DVSA may refuse or be unable to complete the exchange.
  • You must complete DVSA's own security checks and legal declaration. The DTC cannot complete them for you.
  • Where cross-platform matching is available, a potential match may involve a learner using MoveMyTest.co.uk. Relevant listing and workflow information will be exchanged securely between the services.
  • The DTC Test Swap is free to learners. Optional support contributions do not improve matching priority or customer support.

Safety, conduct and booking references

  • Do not sell or buy test slots, impersonate another person, create false listings, harass another user or attempt to bypass the matching and consent process.
  • Never share your driving licence number, theory certificate number, home address, payment-card details, full payment-card number or security code, or GOV.UK sign-in details with another learner or through The DTC Test Swap.
  • If you choose to provide your own booking reference, it is encrypted and may only be made available through the protected process after the required confirmation for an agreed swap.
  • You must not copy, retain or use another learner's booking reference for any purpose other than the agreed DVSA call.
  • We may pause or remove listings, restrict or close accounts, cancel proposed matches, and investigate or report suspected misuse where reasonably necessary to protect users or the service.

Test Swap account and listing data is handled under our Test Swap privacy information. You can report a concern through the private support area or contact The DTC.

10. Liability

The DTC carries appropriate motor insurance covering instructors and learners during lessons. The DTC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from lesson cancellations, instructor unavailability, test outcomes, an unavailable or unsuccessful Test Swap match, or DVSA declining or being unable to complete a proposed exchange. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the total amount you have paid for the relevant paid service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or affects your statutory consumer rights.

11. Data protection

Your personal data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy. By providing your details, you consent to us using them to deliver our services and communicate with you about your lessons and account.

12. Website use

The content on this website is provided for general information about The DTC's services. We make reasonable efforts to keep it accurate and up to date but do not warrant that it is error-free. You may not reproduce, distribute, or republish website content without our written permission.

13. Changes to terms

The DTC may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page. Continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by Scots law. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
