How do I book driving lessons?

What do I need before my first driving lesson?
You need a valid UK provisional driving licence. Bring it to your first lesson and wear any glasses or contact lenses you need for driving. Your instructor will confirm any other arrangements before the lesson.
How long are driving lessons?
The DTC publishes current options for 90-minute lessons, two-hour lessons and ten-hour block bookings. The most suitable lesson length depends on your experience, goals and instructor availability.
What happens in my first driving lesson?
Your instructor will check your licence and eyesight, discuss your experience and goals, and assess an appropriate starting point. A complete beginner normally starts with cockpit checks and basic car control in a suitable area; an experienced learner may begin with a broader driving assessment.
Prices, Payments & Cancellations
How much are driving lessons in Edinburgh?
Current lesson and block-booking rates are kept on one Prices page so you can check the latest figures without comparing duplicate area price pages. Confirm the applicable lesson length, transmission and price when your booking is arranged.
Do you offer block-booking discounts?
Ten-hour block bookings are available and the current block price is shown on the Prices page. Block bookings are paid in advance and lesson availability is agreed with your instructor.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment arrangements can depend on the lesson or block booking. The team or your instructor will confirm the available payment method before payment is due.
What is the cancellation policy?
The published terms currently require at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson without charge. Please check the Terms page for the current policy.
Tests & Learning Progress
How many driving lessons will I need before I am test-ready?
There is no minimum number of lessons or practice hours. The time needed varies with your previous experience, lesson frequency, private practice and progress. Your instructor will give you honest feedback against the skills needed for safe, independent driving rather than promising a fixed number of lessons.
Will I practise on roads used around Edinburgh test centres?
Your lessons will include the road types, traffic conditions and independent-driving skills you may encounter around your chosen test area when appropriate. The aim is to make you a safe, adaptable driver, not to memorise a fixed test route.
Do you help with theory test preparation?
Your instructor will connect theory knowledge to practical driving and can direct you to suitable revision support. You should use current official DVSA learning materials and book your theory test through GOV.UK.
