Booking & Lessons
How do I book a lesson?
You can book by calling 0800 011 2122, texting 07850 907770, emailing reception@thedtc.co.uk, or using the contact form on this website. We'll match you with an instructor in your area.
Can I choose between manual and automatic?
Yes. We offer both manual and automatic lessons depending on your area. Edinburgh and Penicuik offer automatic; all areas offer manual. You can discuss your preference when booking.
Do you offer block booking discounts?
Yes. Block bookings of 10 hours are available at a discounted rate in all areas. Block bookings must be paid for in advance.
What is the cancellation policy?
We require 48 hours' notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or no-shows will still be charged at the full lesson rate.
What happens in my first lesson?
Your instructor will assess your current level, discuss your goals, and create a tailored lesson plan. Beginners will start with the basics of car control; those with experience will focus on the areas that need the most improvement.
Test Preparation
Will I practise on actual test routes?
Yes. Our instructors are familiar with the local test routes and will incorporate them into your lessons so there are no surprises on test day.
Do you help with theory test preparation?
We can recommend DVSA apps and resources for theory preparation and will discuss theory knowledge during your practical lessons.
How many lessons will I need before I'm test-ready?
This varies by individual. Your instructor will give you honest feedback on your progress and let you know when you're ready for the practical test. The DVSA recommends around 45 hours of professional instruction plus private practice.

How much do lessons cost?
Pricing varies by area. Please see our lesson prices page for full details on 90-minute lessons, 2-hour lessons, and block booking rates.

Can I learn in a language other than English?
Yes. We have instructors who speak English, Polish, Urdu, and Punjabi. Let us know your preference when you book.
