Frequently asked questions about driving lessons
How do I book my first driving lesson with The DTC?
Use our contact form or WhatsApp us to book your first lesson. A local instructor will confirm availability in your area (Edinburgh, The Lothians, Fife, Dumfries & Galloway, or Dorset) and arrange a 2-hour introductory session at a time that suits you.
Are your instructors fully qualified?
Yes. Every DTC instructor is a DVSA-registered Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) — no trainees, no Part Ones. We have qualified ADIs in English, Polish, Urdu and Punjabi, on both manual and automatic cars.
How long will it take to pass my test?
Most learners need around 40–50 hours of professional lessons plus private practice. We design a tailored plan for your test centre, with regular progress reviews so you only book the hours you actually need.
Do you cover the Edinburgh, Musselburgh, Dalkeith and Fife test routes?
Yes. Our instructors are local — they teach the same routes the DVSA examiners use at Musselburgh, Currie, Dunfermline, Gorebridge and the other Lothians and Fife test centres, so you walk into test day prepared.
What are your lesson prices and block-booking discounts?
We publish clear per-hour pricing on our prices page, with discounted block bookings of 5, 10 and 20 hours. There are no hidden fees — you only pay for the lessons you book, and unused hours remain valid for 12 months.
Do you offer automatic driving lessons?
Yes. We have dual-controlled automatic tuition cars across Edinburgh, The Lothians, Fife and Dumfries. Automatic-only learners cannot drive manual cars, so we focus purely on building safe, confident automatic driving.
